Veiled Threats: an opinion piece from the NY Times on banning burqas in Europe

This is a spectacular essay from the NY Times (click on the title to see it). I am vehemently against the banning of burqas and niqabs, and this essay describes exactly the reasons why I think that any law against the wearing of burqas in public places is wrong, immoral and obviously stems from a fear of Islam rather than the thinly veiled arguments about security and freedom.

I think the arguments posited in the essay are irrefutable and I don’t see how anyone could still maintain an argument for the banning of burqas and niqabs without declaring their xenophobia/racism/fear.

Well done Martha Nussbaum, and thank you for being more eloquent than the rest of us.
